Discodeine, el duo formado por monsieur Pilooski y Pentile, arranco el 2009 con un tremendo single llamado "Tom Select". En el 12" se incluyen 2 remixes: uno a cargo de nuestro santo patrono Joakim y el otro firmado por La Horse, otro super super duo formado por el amante de lo enfermo Ivan Smagghe y el aspero Danton Eeprom.
A fines de 2008 Lo - Experimental Beats edito un 12" en el que Windsurf. y Black Mustang crearon grandiosos jams basándose en un pequeño fragmento de la canción The Otherworld de Chilled By Nature. El proyecto fue bautizado Otherness y aquí les dejo el remix de el/los misterioso/s Black Mustang en plan slo-motion.
Esta en Buenos Aires el músico y DJ Sebastian Muravchik, quien forma parte del duo Hearbreak y también publica sus propias producciones bajo el alias Muravchix. Tuvimos la posibilidad de hacerle algunas preguntas antes de su presentación de este sábado, en las que habló del panorama actual en UK y del pasado y presente de un genero que muchos dicen amar: el italo.
Durante 2008 ha surgido bastante música influenciada por el italo en UK: Casionova, Ali Renault, Den Haan, y por supuesto Heartbreak. Dirías que ya se ha conformado una escena o es todo muy underground?
En este momento el Italo y el Disco en general en Londres es la ultima tendencia retro. Ocurrió de manera muy repentina, hasta hace un año o dos eramos un puñado de gente y un par de noches y eventos que no generaban ninguna ganancia sino todo lo contrario. Por suerte ahora para nosotros es un momento bárbaro.
Sin embargo no se puede decir que todo pertenezca a una escena. Hay gente que viene influenciada por la Cybernetic Broadcasting System (que en paz descanse), como Ali y yo, otra gente que vive obsesionada por todo lo que sea Disco pero no siguieron el camino de la CBS, y otra gente que viene por el lado de la moda y el new wave. Mientras mas popular se pone mas variedad de gente lo sigue, algunos con mayor pasión, otros con curiosidad por la extraña tendencia que emerge, y también hay gente que habla de Italo como la cosa mas cool, y una vez que escuchan lo que Italo realmente es no saben como reaccionar -Italo hace años que es una palabra mas importante que la música que describe... cosas de shoreditch...
Hacia principios de 2008 la música electrónica inglesa parecia haber perdido el rumbo. Crees que se esta revitalizando con estos nuevos sonidos?
Hay que decir que el Italo puro genera mucha resistencia en las escenas mas establecidas. Por ejemplo algunos seguidores del tecno suelen ser bastante reacios (ignorando que el Italo fue una de las influencias mas importantes en la creación del Tecno...). Esto probablemente quiere decir que estos nuevos sonidos contribuyen a un incómodo debate que saca a la gente de su "zona segura"; en este sentido es revitalizante, si. Que quedará después de que esto pase de moda, difícil saberlo.
Que artistas te siguen impresionando a pesar del paso del tiempo?
Muchos. Fred Ventura por ejemplo, que mantiene una mentalidad muy sana y una visión musical muy interesante desde hace la época del Italo Disco hasta hoy. Y también Casco, Salvatore hace todo tipo de trabajos dentro de la industria, pero su pasión por el Italo nunca desapareció, y es una biblia -sentarse a charlar con él es como consultar con el oráculo del Italo -hace poco le pregunte por la versión de Profondo Rosso de City Centre, una joya bastante oscura, y resulta que conoce a todos lo que estuvieron involucrados en esa producción...
Podrás convencer a Casco de que saque un nuevo disco en 2009?
A Salvatore no hay que convencerlo de nada, en todo caso hay que pararlo o tranquilizarlo a veces, es un trabajador insaciable desde hace mas de 30 años.
Que podemos esperar este sábado en Galaga?
Una mezcla de joyas ocultas y clasicos vinilos del Italo Disco, algo de Electro y Pop, alguna que otra cosita nueva y algún clásico de Techno de Detroit si encuentro el hueco. Lo que la gente con corazón llama Disco!

Truffle Club es el alias de Dave Clark, quien junto a JD Twitch ha firmado un gran numuero de producciones y remixes bajo el nombre de Optimo (Espacio).
Al parecer este es su único release como solista hasta el momento y es, sin dudas, una de las bombas disco del año.
El duo canadiense Cobra Cut es el invitado en el episodio 24 de nuestro podcast. Cobra Cut viene produciendo ya desde hace un año excelentes tracks influenciados por la escena italodisco asi como tambien por bandas sonoras de peliculas de terror de los 70s y 80s. Les dejo aqui una de sus producciones:
En esta tercer jornada les dejo un abrasivo 12" repleto de electro robotico, new wave y sintetizadores gordos made in UK. El grupo se llama Midnight Steppers.
Dissident me parece uno de los sellos mas interesantes de los últimos 2 años.
Su deliberado anti marketing (ediciones limitadas, falta de una imagen visible, no Myspace, no Facebook, no nada) no hace mas que fomentar su aura de sello de culto.
Durante esta semana voy a postear algunos preciados y disidentes releases.
Hoy es domingo, tiempo de relax. Y nada mejor que el ingles Casionova y sus sintes directamente salidos de Miami Vice en un "italero" remix de Ali Renault.
Para terminar el domingo con groove, acá va una auténtica bomba afro disco publicada recientemente por el label Sofrito Specials en un impecable EP llamado Tropical Discotheque.
Aparentemente se trata de un edit de una cancion del grupo Basa Basa, perteneciente a su disco Homowo de 1983.
